In 2015, approximately $15 billion was stolen from 13.1 million American consumers who were victims of fraud. The 50+ community is often the target of fraudsters, while only makes up 34% of the population, senior citizens make up 55% of reported fraud victims. The AARP Fraud Watch Network is proud to put the spotlight on common scams and show you how to protect yourself from becoming a victim, and we’re continuing that commitment throughout the month of April. Check out our upcoming fraud prevention events below.

Tele-Town Halls: We are hosting two Tele-Town Halls where participants will hear from experts on preventing fraud and then have an opportunity to ask questions and share their personal experiences with fraud.

Speaker Series- Identity Theft and Scams: Come hear experts discuss common scams and how to avoid them. Speakers will include representatives from AARP, the U.S. Federal Trade Commission, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission and the City of Alexandria’s Sherriff’s Department. This event is free and open to the public but registration is requested. Light refreshments will be provided.
