Speak Up on Natural Gas Rate Hike

Electric power lines

Energy bills can be confusing for consumers, especially in places where utility service areas cross state lines. And increasing utility costs can be tough for Arkansans living on fixed incomes.

The Arkansas Public Service Commission (APSC) is holding hearings this month on a natural gas rate increase proposed by Oklahoma Gas & Electric (OG&E), which has 60,000 customers in western Arkansas.

AARP monitors rate proposals and fights for affordable utilities. AARP Arkansas, which encouraged members to help rein in previous increases, is again collecting public comments and petitions to present to APSC. Want to weigh in? Click OG&E Docket 16_052_U to submit comments regarding the OG&E proposal.

Households that have difficulty paying utility bills can seek help from the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program at liheap.org/states/ar.
