Central Connecticut State University (CCSU), the university’s Office of Continuing Education and Gerontology Program will collaborate with AARP Connecticut for a special Disrupt Aging conversation across professions, perspectives and generations on Wednesday, April 5, at 9 a.m.

The half-day program – a Careers in Aging Week Event presented with Borrow My Glasses, CT State Department on Aging and NCAAA – will build bridges among professionals, academic institutions, community collaborators and consumers who are passionate about aging issues and disrupting aging in Connecticut. Dr. Glynis Fitzgerald, associate vice president, academic affairs and dean of graduate studies at CCSU, will offer opening remarks followed by speakers representing the university and aging professionals from the community and public policy arena.

“CCSU has been a Careers in Aging Week (CIAW) participant for many years, but this will be our biggest CIAW program yet due to our collaboration with AARP and CCSU's Office of Continuing Education,” said Dr. Carrie Andreoletti, Associate Professor of Psychological Science and Coordinator of Gerontology. “Connecticut has the seventh highest median age in the country, with a high percentage of older adults choosing to age in place. We need to be having more conversations across professions and organizations to meet the very diverse needs of our aging population, which is why this #Disrupt Aging event is so exciting and timely!”

The interactive forum will pull together a multi-generational audience of academics, consumers, students, professionals and representatives of various community organizations to create a wide-ranging variety of viewpoints on aging in today’s world.

“The opportunity to offer Disrupt Aging conversations in communities around the state and the country, provides a vehicle for new attitudes and perspectives to emerge,” said Erica Michalowski, MSW, Associate State Director of Outreach for AARP CT.

Donna Fedus, gerontologist and Borrow My Glasses founder, added, “We are proud to partner with AARP, CCSU students and professors, along with community organizations and volunteers, to transform how people think about aging.”

Space is limited and advance registration for the free event is required online or by calling 1-877-926-8300.
