Take A Stand Weekly Standing: AARP NH 'Meets the Press'

With just 77 days to go until the 2016 election, AARP New Hampshire had yet another high octane week of on the campaign trail. From high profile candidate events, to a one-two punch of stellar coverage in the press, this past week was another one for the record books.

We kicked things off with back-to-back volunteer engagement events in Nashua and Manchester, where attendees had a chance to learn more about #TakeAStand’s road map for 2016, and write some letters to influential members of the Granite State community.

They say decisions are made my those who show up – pictures like these are a reason to be optimistic about the future.

On Wednesday, we published our latest #TakeAStand Stand Out, a blog series on some of our awesome volunteers and AARP members in the Granite State. This issue premiered Lloyd Farnham, a rock star volunteer with a penchant for lounging on the furniture of Executive Branch officials.

The week was certainly not without its share of notable appearances by some high profile people. In recognition of her work on senior issues, AARP New Hampshire named Senator Kelly Ayotte as our 2016 ‘Champion of the 50+ Legislative Leadership Award.”

From left to right: AARP NH State Director Todd Fahey, US Senator Kelly Ayotte, and AARP NH President Marc Boyd … we literally ran out of room for important people in this picture.

And on the very same day, AARP volunteer Jeannine had the opportunity to meet Indiana Governor and Republican Vice Presidential nominee Mike Pence at his Town Hall in Manchester.

Sorry, Mike … but we think Jeannine wore it better #RedShirtAlert #AlsoRedTieAlert

As mentioned, the past week was a big messaging win for us, too. Starting with AARP NH President Marc Boyd’s cutting Letter to the Editor that was published in the Concord Monitor …

Meet #6
Commander in Chief AND a published writer? What CAN’T this man do?

continuing with a super fact-y blog piece outlining just how tough a 25% cut to benefits would be on the Granite state …

Meet #7
This is one of those times where going above 100% is in no way a good thing.

and concluding with a thought provoking op-ed from AARP NH State Director Todd Fahey.

Meet #8
Note: Todd is not actually in this photo … because he was too busty taking the picture #ObligatoryAgeJokeAboutMyBoss

With a week like that, we decided to treat ourselves to a little music in the park at Intown Manchester’s final show of their Summer Fest Concert Series …

Meet #9
Ok … so we were canvassing during this “treat." But we danced between tabling shifts, so we’ll call it even.

where we stumbled upon what is perhaps the most perfect response to  #TakeAStand’s mission that we’ve ever come across.

Meet #10
We may have to revise our MPAA rating to PG13.
