Team AARP Brings It Home

Fifty AARP members participated in the St. Louis Senior Olympics as part of Team AARP Memorial Day weekend.  All told, Team AARP athletes competed in over 100 different events – everything from Washer Toss to Golf to Pickleball.

Our athletes ranged in age from John who turned 50 in April to Dorothy who is 92.  All skill levels were represented on Team AARP.  We had people who have competed in specific sports on teams regionally and nationally to those that just learned a sport the day they were competing.  That is the beauty of the Senior Olympics – all levels of experience and knowledge are encouraged to participate.  For many it’s about the experience not the end result.  Speaking of results…

Our 50 Team AARP athletes brought home over 110 medals with several athletes winning more than 10 individual medals.  We also have 2 athletes that broke or tied St. Louis Senior Olympic records, Dessa Paris in cycling and John Blase with the javelin throw. While we commend those who won a medal or ribbon, we celebrate all of our athletes for taking the courageous step to compete in even one event!

Each athlete will receive a special video commemorating their experience in the St. Louis Senior Olympics as part of Team AARP.  Many have been recruiting additional Team AARP athletes for the 2016 St. Louis Senior Olympics.  To be added to the list of those interested in competing next year (no commitment) send an email to us and we will contact you early in 2016.  Will we hit 100 Team AARP members next year?  Stay tuned…
