The UPS Store teams with AARPNV and Three Square Food Bank to Fight Senior Hunger in Southern Nevada

It’s a startling statistic – more than 80,000 seniors living in Southern Nevada are going hungry, or are at risk of hunger.  Many live on fixed incomes, and find themselves regularly choosing between purchasing needed medication, paying monthly bills, and shopping for groceries.  That’s why the more than 60 locally-owned outlets of The UPS Store in Southern Nevada are teaming up with AARP Nevada and Three Square for a special summer food drive to support seniors in need.

“This is about raising awareness and starting a conversation about this important issue, as well as collecting food,” said Rhonda DiGennaro, area franchisee for The UPS Store in Southern Nevada.  “Our team in Southern Nevada is committed to making a difference for seniors who are at risk for hunger – and we’re asking our customers and the community at large to join us.”

Members of the community may drop off non-perishable food items at The UPS Store in their neighborhood through Labor Day – Monday, September 2.  To find The UPS Store location closest to your home or business, visit www.TheUPSStore.com.   A list of most-needed items can be found at www.ThreeSquare.org.

“Both here in Nevada and nationally, AARP is working to shine a spotlight on the issue of senior hunger,” said Carla Sloan, AARP Nevada state director. “We have a wonderful partner in Three Square addressing this critical issue in Clark County, and we are just thrilled that the local team from The UPS Store is taking up the cause.  With the community’s support, their efforts will make a tremendous difference for seniors, many of whom are simply too proud to ask for help.”

“We are so grateful to have partners like AARP and The UPS Store in Southern Nevada to help us combat senior food insecurity,” said President and CEO of Three Square Food Bank Brian Burton.  “There are more than 340,000 individuals who are hungry in Southern Nevada and through the help of our agency partners, we are able to feed nearly 100,000 of those people each month, 16,000 of them being seniors.  This vulnerable population needs all the help we can offer and together, we can solve hunger in this community.”
