Top AARP Volunteer named 2013 Woman of the Year

Judith (Judy) Taggart, AARP Delaware Executive Council member, has been named 2013 Woman of the Year by the University of Delaware Women’s Club. Judy will be honored at a luncheon on May 1.

Judy joined the Delaware Executive Council in 2010 and has brought extensive background in non-profit leadership and volunteer management to her role on the EC. During 30 years of management experience, she was successful in strategic planning, financial management and fund development. Prior to retiring, she was CEO of the Girl Scouts of the Chesapeake Bay, where she oversaw more than 6,000 volunteers and increased public awareness and support for the Girl Scouts.

Judy exemplifies the volunteer spirit of Ethel Percy Andrus. She is currently President of the Friends of the Newark Library, a member of the Delaware State Commission for Women and recently served as President of the New Castle County League of Women Voters.

She has been an outspoken advocate for AARP issues including “You’ve Earned a Say” and “Drive to End Hunger.”

“Judy’s spirit and energy for volunteerism is contagious,” says AARP State Director Lucretia Young. “She empowers everyone around her to engage more fully in their work.”

Judy Taggart and her husband Bob travel regularly, and she makes times in her busy schedule for her grandchildren while continuing to mentor young women. Judy earned her MS degree in Human Resource Management from Wilmington University and her BS degree in Elementary Education from University of Missouri. She resides in Newark, DE.
