Volunteer as a Citizen Observer in Utah's Courts

Do you value fairness in our state courts? Would you like to use your observation and writing skills to help improve Utah’s courts? The Judicial Performance Evaluation Commission [“JPEC”] is seeking citizen volunteers to observe and evaluate judges throughout the state.

 Volunteers write reports that judges use for self-improvement purposes and that JPEC uses as one of several factors in deciding whether judges should be recommended for retention at election time. This is a unique opportunity for engaged citizens to participate in state government.

Observers will be trained about what to expect in court and what to look for. A time commitment of 5-10 hours per month is expected. Observers need basic computer skills and internet access. Travel is reimbursed for training sessions and when each report is submitted. All observers serve at the discretion of the Commission.
