AARP AARP States Nebraska Advocacy

Volunteer to Be a Voice for Age 50+ Nebraskans!

Frank Herzog and Duane Polzien
AARP Nebraska volunteers attend a hearing at the State Capitol on caregiving legislation.

AARP Nebraska has several openings on its statewide advocacy volunteer team. Volunteers work on state and federal issues that are important to AARP members and older Nebraskans, such as caregiving, Social Security, home and community-based care options, transportation, aging services, healthcare, taxation, financial security and more.

REAL Advocacy Lead

The Regional Education and Advocacy Leads (REAL) are high-level leaders who work with Executive Council members and state staff to create and implement grassroots plans specific to their district. They work on state and national level advocacy issues as well as member engagement. They ensure an active and connecting AARP presence within their districts and provide leadership and mentoring for Congressional District (CD) and State Legislative District Volunteers. This is a new position and we are seeking REAL volunteers for the areas with Congressional District 1, 2 and 3. It is possible that we will have co-leads for some of the CDs. If interested in this position please put REAL VOLUNTEER in the subject line of your email. See bottom of the page for details on how to apply.

Federal Issues Advocacy Volunteer

Have an interest in working with Nebraska’s Members of Congress (MOC)? Typical work includes forming working relationships with staff in Congressional district offices; becoming knowledgeable of AARP priorities; responding to “calls to action” to contact Nebraska MOCs regarding AARP positions; attending issue based events held by the MOC in the district and participating in AARP voter engagement campaigns. Volunteers are needed in Congressional Districts 1, 2 and 3 and for both Nebraska US Senators. If interested in this position, please put FEDERAL ISSUES VOLUNTEER in the subject line of your email. See bottom of the page for details on how to apply.

State Issues Advocacy Volunteer

Have an interest in working with state lawmakers? Typical work includes building relationships with elected officials through personal outreach; informing AARP members, community agencies and individuals about important issues; writing letters to the editor on AARP state priorities, monitoring regional media for stories on the key issues and participating in AARP voter engagement campaigns. Volunteers are needed in all legislative districts. Experience is helpful, but a willingness to jump right in is great. If interested in this position please put STATE LEGIS VOLUNTEER in the subject line of your email. See bottom of the page for details on how to apply.
