The Protective Money Management Program (PMMP) is seeking volunteers to assist low-income seniors and persons with a disability who are no longer able to manage their finances. The program, sponsored by Rappahannock-Rapidan Community Services and the AARP Foundation, serves clients in Rappahannock, Madison, Orange, Culpeper and Fauquier county.
Volunteers will take over and actively manage a client’s finances under rules established by the Social Security Administration. This includes opening and managing a bank account, paying bills, allocating spending money, budgeting and dealing with financial issues and problems when they arise. Volunteers also visit with their client once or twice per month.

Prospective volunteers will receive training and must be able to pass a full background check. Computer skills and fast internet access are also a requirement and experience with online banking and bill-paying is helpful.
The program is all-volunteer and received a “Best Practices” award from the Virginia Governor’s Office in 2010
