AARP Kentucky is taking its 2014 2014_KY_Senate_Voter_Guide_FINAL_7-27-14 on the campaign trail to Kentuckians at the “unofficial kick-off” for political campaigns at 134th Fancy Farm Picnic. The guide focuses on where Senator Mitch McConnell and Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes stand on critical pocketbook issues for Kentuckians age 50+.  AARP volunteers and staff will distribute the guide at the Fancy Farm Picnic held on the grounds of St. Jerome Church in Graves County.

As part of AARP voter engagement, the guide is one tool to help Kentuckians get the facts they need to choose their candidate on Election Day. These non-partisan guides deliver a breakdown of candidates’ positions on issues of most importance to Kentuckians based on information taken from their campaigns, media reports and publicly available information.

This year the Voters’ Guides focus on financial security for Baby Boomers, retired Kentuckians as well as future generations - specifically Social Security, Medicare, and Financial Security.

AARP has collected candidates’ public statements on how they would: protect and strengthen Social Security; strengthen Medicare and protect against rising health costs; and help Americans save so they can secure their future.

“For over 28 years, AARP has worked to make sure that candidates address the issues important to older voters and that these voters had the information to decide who best represents them when they head to the polls,” said AARP Kentucky State Director Ron Bridges.

“AARP’s Voter's Guide brings nonpartisan, straightforward information on important issues from the campaign trail to Kentuckians' kitchen tables.”

AARP does not support or oppose any political candidates and does not contribute money to political action committees, campaigns or super PACs.

The 2014 Kentucky Senate Voter's Guide will be available online in mid-August, www.aarp.org/yourvote
