Passage of the CARE Act (House Bill 2058) into law is important for more than 605,000 caregivers in Kansas. But, how can we best communicate the message to lawmakers? One way is to talk to them, face to face, at a moment’s notice, while they are working in Topeka. We are so fortunate at AARP to have a core of volunteers who live in the capital city area who are just as willing as they are able to do the job. Meet our CCTF!

Our Capital City Task Force, or CCTF, is comprised of volunteers with a variety of backgrounds, but all with an expertise of interest in helping move our AARP agenda forward. Led byJudy Bellome, chair, and former visiting nurses administrator, volunteers on the CCTF are assigned legislators to cover and days to monitor hearings at the Statehouse. Many are former nurses or medical personnel, with experience in discharge planning and other issues that impact the level of support caregivers need. They are a feisty but respectful group, passionate about helping to make life better for Kansans so they can remain in their homes and communities as they get older.

Does the work of the CCTF sound like something you would like to do? In addition to interests in recruiting former medical personnel, we are also looking for people with backgrounds in utilities, financial management, older workers, and a host of consumer related issues. You don't need an educational degree to make a difference for someone who needs a voice. I hope you will join us-- we will be looking for you!!
