Willa Black Sanders Knows Volunteering Matters

"When you volunteer with AARP you know you are making a difference," said AARP Arkansas Executive Council Member and three-year volunteer Willa Black Sanders, MPA. "It matters. And there is so much work to do."

Willa formed a working relationship with AARP during her time at the College of Public Health as Assistant Dean for Governmental Relations and Special Projects. She knew that upon retirement she wanted to do even more to help older Arkansans achieve their best life possible.

"I knew AARP was a great organization and did a lot of work to help educate and inform older adults," said the Willa. "Now, I'm focusing on health prevention and awareness for older Arkansans as well as working to form partnerships with other health organizations in the state."

Willa is a Commissioner for the Arkansas Minority Health Commission and a member of the Minority Health Consortium. She acts as a liaison between these two groups and AARP. She believes these collaborations will help impact the lives of countless people in on our state.

Willa obtained a Masters in Public Administration from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock and a Bachelor of Science in Education from the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, Arkansas. She is married to Troy Sanders and the two have a blended family including five children, seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
