2017 AARP Real Possibilities Faith Awards

Inspired Service of Faith-filled Volunteers Recognized with 2017 AARP Real Possibilities Faith Awards

AARP Kentucky volunteers, staff, and friends recently celebrated 23 inspiring, faith-filled volunteers nominated for their dedicated service in Louisville.

The celebration experience was attended by more than 100, included a live band, and Emceed by WLOU 104.7 FM radio personality, Ms. Krystal. Wilma Mitchell, a local AARP Kentucky volunteer, helped to coordinate the outreach effort.  According to Mitchell, “I was honored and excited to be a part of the judging committee. It was uplifting to hear and learn about so much good work in our community.”

A first for the Kentucky State Office and its Louisville volunteer team, AARP aimed to reach deep into Louisville’s Faith Community and spotlight the compassion and community service of its everyday “unsung heroes.”

Each of the 23 nominees were sorted into three categories based on congregational size: Small, Medium, and Large. Eligibility required each nominee to be 50-plus, a member of their organization for 5 years, and had completed their community service on a voluntary basis.

The top candidate in each category was awarded the 2017 Real Possibilities Faith Award trophy and a $50 gift card. AARP Kentucky also awarded their faith organization a $500 donation.

  • Mr. Aaron West from the Lydia House - Small.
  • Ms. Mary Sue Crawford from Magazine Street Seventh-Day Adventist Church- Medium.
  • Ms. Debra Wright from Christway Missionary Baptist Church - Large.
