AARP & Bremer Bank Team Up to Tackle Senior Hunger

This June, AARP is partnering with Bremer Bank to support food banks across Minnesota, North Dakota and Western Wisconsin.  Each view of the the YouTube video below will generate a $1 donation from Bremer Bank up to a total of $10,000.   Proceeds will go to support 2nd Harvest Heartland and the Great Plains Food Bank which support food shelves in the three states.

Bremer will provide matching donations of up to $30,000 and the proceeds will go to support food shelves in the Second Harvest Heartland and Great Plains Food Bank networks.  Donations can be made online at bremer.com or at any Bremer branch location.

AARP is dedicated to helping older Americans in need of nutrition assistance.  The AARP Foundation provides financial support to food banks across the United States and AARP Minnesota has advocated at the Capitol to make it easier for those over 50 to sign up for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).

Facts about seniors and SNAP

  • A senior earning less than $1,536 per month may qualify for SNAP
  • Those with high medical or living expenses may qualify for a higher income limit
  • 88,000 Minnesota seniors are eligible for SNAP, less than 50% are enrolled
  • According to USDA, every $5 spent through the Food Support program creates nearly $10 in economic activity in Minnesota
