AARP Louisiana co-sponsors free Caregiver’s Conference in Monroe

Conference will focus on caring for a loved one living with Alzheimer’s or Dementia

Monroe, LA – AARP Louisiana is co-sponsoring a caregiver’s conference hosted by the Alzheimer’s Association in Monroe. The conference aims to support caregivers and help them gain a better understanding of the rights they have regarding a loved one who is suffering from Alzheimer’s or Dementia. The event will take place 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. Saturday, July 23 at the Emily P. Robinson Community Center, 3504 Jackson Street in Monroe, LA.

There are 42 million family caregivers in America -- about one out of every five adults -- and that number will go up as Baby Boomers age. Caring for a loved one is difficult. That’s why AARP is here to help caregivers with the tools, information and support they need to care for their loved one and themselves.

AARP Louisiana Volunteer and West Monroe resident Deanne Groves will present the workshop Prepare to Care – A Practical Resource Guide for Families to support caregivers along the caregiving journey. This workshop discusses the challenges caregivers may face and reviews resources available. Other workshops scheduled include  “Alzheimer’s Overview & Therapeutic and Preventative Research Updates,” hosted by Yazan Batarseh, Ph.D. and “Dementia Conversations – Driving, Doctor Visits, & Legal Plan,” hosted by Stacey Denham, Alzheimer’s Association.

There is no registration fee to attend but seating is limited. Please call AARP 1-877-926-8300 to reserve your seat at the event. AARP will provide a light lunch and door prizes will be awarded throughout the day. For more information contact the Alzheimer’s Association, Louisiana Chapter at dhayes@alz.org or call (318) 861-8680.
