AARP SD Lobby Day a Success!

Nearly 100 advocates from 18 different communities and every corner of our state gathered in Pierre Tuesday for AARP South Dakota's annual Lobby Day at the Capitol.  Many attendees took the opportunity to speak with their local lawmakers about the issues that are important to South Dakotans age 50+ including increased access to care, support for family caregivers and expanded consumer protections.

Despite it being a very busy day in Pierre, we were excited to host just over 80% of the South Dakota legislature for lunch in the Rotunda.  Additionally, AARP SD advocates were acknowledged with applause in both the House and Senate chambers and posed for a photo with Governor Dennis Daugaard.

"Each year, when red vests flood the halls of the Capitol, it demonstrates the strength of our membership and amplifies our local message," said Erik Gaikowski, AARP South Dakota State Director. "The impact of this day is felt in Pierre long after the buses depart."

Individuals interested in joining our community of advocates can sign up to receive weekly legislative updates via phone or email by calling 1-866-542-8172 or emailing sdaarp@aarp.org. Lobby Day 2019 will be Tuesday, January 29, 2019. Invitations are extended first to active advocates and volunteers.
