AARP Washington is looking for graduate-level public policy intern interested in addressing issues impacting the State’s aging population associated with financial security, vulnerable adults and long term care. The intern will work directly with the Advocacy Director on public policy and legislative priorities as well as assist with, community engagement, communications and data management.
- Research and evaluate current and new legislative priorities including identifying opportunities for collaboration and partnership.
- Coordinate participation of legislators at AARP-hosted community outreach events.
- Monitor federal legislation on a wide variety of issues of importance to governor, legislators and other state government officials.
- Monitor implementation of legislation.
- Draft weekly Advocacy Update and oversee logistics to share with volunteer teams.
- Write blog posts and assist with social media postings.
- Update volunteer advocate Convio database.
- Current area of study or a strong interest and curiosity in policy research and analysis on issues impacting the aging population in the State of Washington.
- Knowledge or background on long-term healthcare supports and services, retirement systems, low income housing, poverty or elder abuse/exploitation, is preferred.
- Experience working with Excel spreadsheets and databases.
- Organized and detail-oriented while working on a wide range of tasks.
- Strong writing and proofreading skills.
