April 19 is Day of Action for Health Care Bill

#SaveMyCare DAY OF ACTION ALERT

THE TIME IS NOW TO FIGHT BACK AGAINST ACTION BY CONGRESS TO PASS A BAD HEALTH CARE BILL!

WHAT: A day of action to contact your Senators and Representatives and let them know how important quality, affordable care is to you, your family and your friends.

WHY: People’s health and lives are at stake! When the delegation returns to Washington in a couple weeks, it’s likely they will try to pass healthcare reform again. As with the previous attempt, this could mean cuts to Medicaid and Medicare, the loss of health insurance for 24 million or more Americans, or possibly something even worse.

WHEN: Wednesday, April 19, 2017

HOW: There are several ways to take action. Choose the commitment level that works best for you.

GOOD ACTIONS:

Contact your elected officials on social media. Don’t forget to tag them:

Here a few ideas for what you might say:

  • Almost 200,000 Utahns have quality, affordable healthcare this year thanks to the ACA. Please build on this progress. #SaveMyCare #UTPol
  • Please continue providing assistance to the more than 70% of Utahns covered by the ACA who need help with out-of-pocket costs. #SaveMyCare #UTPol
  • Please preserve coverage of essential health benefits, like prescription drugs and mental health care. #SaveMyCare UTPol
  • Please make sure Utahns with pre-existing conditions can get quality and affordable coverage. #SaveMyCare #UTPol
  • Making coverage cheaper for younger Utahns at the expense of older ones is unfair.  #SaveMyCare #UTPol
  • Utah’s experience shows that putting everyone with high-cost needs together is unaffordable and doesn’t work. #SaveMyCare #UTPol
  • 300,000 Utahns depend on Medicaid to keep them healthy, independent, and productive.  #SaveMedicaid #UTPol
  • Medicaid covers crucial services for Utah kids, seniors, and persons with disabilities often unavailable elsewhere. #SaveMedicaid #UTPol
  • Please don’t cut Medicaid by 25% over 10 years, leaving Utah with no choice but to reduce eligibility or benefits. #SaveMedicaid #UTPol

Here’s what you could say:

Good [morning/afternoon],
My name is [NAME] and I live in [CITY/TOWN], [STATE]. As a voter in your district, I think it’s
critical everybody has affordable and high-quality health coverage, so I strongly oppose bringing back the American Health Care Act. People like me spoke out against the bill that failed two weeks ago and stood up for our health care.

The latest health care repeal plan would not only raise premiums and cause millions of people to lose coverage, it would allow insurance companies to deny coverage for basic health services like maternity care or prescription drugs. It would also gut protections for people with pre-existing conditions.

I’m asking that you oppose this plan.
[OPTIONAL BUT HIGHLY RECOMMENDED: ADD 2-3 SENTENCES ABOUT YOUR OWN PERSONAL STORY AND WHY THIS ISSUE IS IMPORTANT TO YOU]

As Speaker Ryan said, “Obamacare is the law of the land.” It’s time to come together to improve the ACA, protect Medicaid, and advance a health reform agenda that addresses what we all care about most - lowering costs and improving the quality of care.

Thank you for your time and service.

Sincerely,

(YOUR NAME)

Health Care is a Lifesaver!   Please Don’t Put Us at Risk

girl with lifesavers

The health care proposals being considered in Congress would:
• Cause 24 million Americans to lose their health coverage
• Put an unfair age tax on older Americans that would allow insurance companies to charge them five times more than others
• Weaken Medicare – leaving the door open to benefit cuts and Medicare vouchers
• Put thousands of older Americans and those with disabilities at risk of institutionalization
• Leave thousands of Utah children uninsured
• Cut critical care to children with special health care needs
• Allow insurance companies to stop covering basic care like prescription drugs, mental health, and cancer screenings
Please save my health care because: __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

You will likely leave this message with someone in the front office, but it shows that you have a made a great effort to contact your representative, and that you care enough to fight for access to affordable, quality health care!
