Topics: Caregiving and the CARE Act, and Preventing ID Theft with a Credit Report Security Freeze

To kick off the New Year, AARP Massachusetts is holding a series of free luncheon events to help you start 2018 armed with knowledge about the new state law for patients and caregivers called the CARE Act, and information and tips about preventing fraud, scams, and ID theft.

Advocacy Update: Family Caregiving and the CARE Act

AARP Advocacy staff will provide a detailed update on tenets of the CARE Act, the new state law that helps patients and their caregivers.

Our Advocacy team will also go over the Massachusetts Caregiver Tax Credit bill, and discuss how constituents across the state can work with elected representatives to help pass this legislation.

Additionally, we’ll provide an update on the¬†RAISE Family Caregivers Act, an important piece of just-passed federal legislation that will create a plan to address the challenges facing caregivers across the country.

The Family Caregiving and CARE Act luncheons are free, but space is limited and registration is required.

Advocacy Update: Fraud and ID Theft

Protecting yourself and your loved ones from fraud, scams, and identity (ID) theft is no easy feat. Join us for a presentation about staying one step ahead of scammers and com artists. We’ll share tips on keeping your online accounts safe and preventing a form of ID theft where criminals use stolen information to open new lines of credit and loans in your name.

AARP Advocacy staff will discuss new legislation, which, if enacted, will remove fees associated with enacting and removing a Credit Report Security Freeze on your credit accounts.¬†A credit report security freeze allows you to restrict access to your credit report with the three major credit reporting agencies ‚ÄĒ Experian, Equifax, and TransUnion. Currently, all three agencies charge fees to place, suspend, and/or remove a credit report security freeze. If passed into law, the¬†Credit Report Security Freeze legislation would remove all fees for Massachusetts residents when placing, suspending and/or removing a credit report security freeze ‚ÄĒ regardless of the number of times a freeze is placed or removed.
