AARP Commends Gov. Christie for Supporting Caregivers  of Wounded Warriors

AARP applauds Governor Christie for his enactment today of The Wounded Warrior Caregiver Relief Act (S750), which will provide a modest state income tax credit for the eligible, unpaid family caregivers of our post- 9-11 Wounded Warriors.

The Wounded Warrior Caregivers Relief Act provides a tax credit to qualified family caregivers who take care of a military service member who has a disability arising out of service in any war or conflict on or after September 11th, 2001.

According to a recent AARP report, the vast majority of caregivers spend approximately $7,000 out of their own pockets each year to care for their loved ones.  The Wounded Warrior Caregivers Relief Act, which passed through both chambers of our State Legislature behind unanimous bipartisan support, would help honor the struggles of these veterans and their families by providing them with some modest, yet much needed relief.

Military veterans who’ve suffered an injury have more than done their part. They’ve made enormous sacrifices. We commend Governor Christie, and the New Jersey State Legislature, for honoring their sacrifices by way of passing, and enacting, this important piece of legislation.
