AARP Florida: AARP Does Not Participate In Candidates’ Political Ads

TALLAHASSEE – AARP Florida State Director Jeff Johnson issued the following statement today:

The Andrew Gillum for Governor campaign is running at least one political ad that is either quoting or paraphrasing AARP on healthcare issues. While AARP is an advocate for affordable healthcare for older adults and their families, AARP did not authorize this ad, or any others, that mention AARP, or would use its logo, nor did AARP participate in the production of such ads.

AARP has a proud 32-year history of non-partisan voter engagement, providing voters with information on where the candidates stand on issues important to our members and their families, so they can make their own decisions on Election Day.

We urge all candidates to address voters’ concerns on issues like support for family caregivers, long-term care, making our communities livable for people of all ages, prescription drugs and Medicaid.

We also encourage our members and all Americans to ask questions so they understand where the candidates stand on these and other important issues and choose the candidates that best reflect their views and values.

Ultimately, we ask that AARP members and Americans sign the pledge at aarp.org/vote, be the difference in this election, and vote on Nov. 6.
