AARP Virginia to Hold Forums with Family Caregivers

Organization Seeks Support for Family Caregiver Tax Credit

Every day, more than 1 million Virginians care for older parents, spouses, and adult children with disabilities, helping with everything from driving to the doctor’s office or getting groceries to balancing checkbooks and helping with medical care.

Family caregiving can be overwhelming, stressful, and exhausting. That’s why AARP Virginia is fighting for common-sense solutions, like the Virginia Family Caregiver Income Tax Credit. The credit would provide some financial relief to family caregivers, making their big responsibilities a little bit easier.

Family caregivers can help in the effort by sharing their stories of love, dedication, and perseverance at a series of listening sessions across Virginia in April and May. Local legislators have been invited to the forums, and the caregivers’ input will help shape how AARP Virginia advocates for them at the General Assembly.

Family caregivers are encouraged to participate so that AARP Virginia can make sure that our elected officials find ways to support family caregivers in our state.  All of the events are free, but registration is encouraged.

April 4 – Ashland: 11:30 am – 2:30 pm, Ashland Theatre, 205 England St., Ashland, VA 23005.  This session will include the free screening of a popular current film that focuses on the challenges of caregiving from the viewpoint of family caregivers. The movie is Rated R for language, including a brief sexual reference. Audio assistance is unavailable for this screening. Tickets are free but registration is required. To R.S.V.P, call 1-844-418-2281 or visit https://aarp.info/WTH_Ashland.
