When Tanya Johnson was promoted by the new Casper City Manager, Carter Napier this year, she had a few request, but one that was very important to AARP - not to be removed from the Age Friendly Casper program. During Tuesday night’s Volunteer Recognition Dinner in Casper, AARP Wyoming honored Johnson with its Community Partner Award for her work in Casper.

Johnson is a Sheridan High School and University of Utah graduate with degrees in sociology and criminal justice. After working for 13 years at the University of Utah Burn Center, she came back home to Wyoming, earned a Master’s Degree in Public Administration and is now the Special Projects Coordinator for the Casper City Manager and CIty Council.

Johnson has been instrumental in working with the Casper Senior Services survey, which has led to AARP efforts, such as an Age Friendly designation for the city. Her work with former city officials and current AARP volunteers Kate Sarosy and Dave Hough, allowed for a strong partnership between the city and AARP. Her work on the Community Challenge Grant, a $7,500 grant from AARP’s national office to build an age friendly bus stop west of the Albertson’s on Second Street was an example of her efforts to make Casper better for AARP members and non-members alike. Johnson currently is the co-chair for the Casper Age Friendly committee.
