AARP wants neighborhoods to be accessible to people of all ages. Two Mountain State communities just got a boost in that effort, winning AARP Community Challenge grants to improve public spaces.

Hamlin’s Lincoln County Friends of the Arts received funding to create artistic crosswalks in areas served by regional bus services.

A second grant went to the city of Morgantown, which installed benches throughout the historic district, so people can sit, relax and socialize.

AARP awarded 129 grants totaling $1.3 million in all 50 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico as part of AARP’s Livable Communities initiative.
