AARP is working with food banks and other organizations to teach older people how to grow ingredients for a nutritious salad in a container that can be placed on a porch or balcony.

After graduating from the day-and-a-half “container garden” class, participants will receive a container, plants and directions for growing their own salad bowl.

Other efforts in the fight against hunger among older Alabamans include assisting eligible people with applying for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program  (SNAP) and conducting classes on healthy cooking on a budget.
