Hurricane preparedness tipsHurricanes can be devastating, and those who live alone or need help with tasks of daily living are particularly vulnerable.

In the wake of Hurricane Maria, AARP Puerto Rico has focused almost exclusively on storm relief, especially for older residents. The AARP Foundation raised funds for disaster relief, and the AARP state office launched the Juntos Es Posible (Together It Is Possible) Tour, an effort to help older people ravaged by the storm.

AARP staff and volunteers set up a call center and channeled food and supplies to more than 31,000 people in need. AARP also organized emotional support events for residents of 10 devastated areas.

AARP Puerto Rico will continue to focus on hurricane recovery as long as the need persists. To volunteer, call 866-542-8169 toll-free or e-mail aarppr@aarp.org.
