AARP is encouraging Medicare beneficiaries to read their annual Notice of Change and to review their health and prescription drug plan options for 2019 during Medicare Open Enrollment Oct. 15-Dec. 7.

The N.D. Insurance Department is conducting Part D open enrollment events in eight North Dakota cities.

You can also call 2-1-1 from anywhere in North Dakota now through Nov. 16 for help. After providing your medication information and answering some questions, information on the best three plans will be mailed to you.

Medicare plans often change their cost-sharing and coverage benefits every year. AARP strongly recommends that people compare their current plan with other available plans, and change to a different plan during open enrollment if it better meets their current needs. Some people may be able to save hundreds of dollars on out-of-pocket costs just by changing to a different plan.

Many individuals already enrolled in Medicare don’t participate in these annual events and as a result, are paying too much for their medications. In 2017 alone, the Insurance Department was able to save Medicare beneficiaries more than $1.7 million through enrollment assistance.

Here are dates and locations of upcoming enrollment events. All are from 9 a.m.-4 p.m.
