Hofstra Presidential Debate: AARP Calls on Clinton, Trump to Address Social Security - Fundamental Pocketbook Issue Facing Nearly 25% Cut

tas
Statement by Beth Finkel, State Director of AARP in New York State:

HEMPSTEAD, New York – “Pocketbook issues are critical to American voters, and that’s why AARP is calling on Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump to detail their plans for strengthening Social Security during their first debate at Hofstra.

“Social Security may be the biggest pocketbook issue of all. Some Americans could lose as much as $10,000 a year if benefits are cut as scheduled by nearly 25 percent in less than 18 years. And the problem will only get harder to solve the longer politicians kick the can down the road. We need action; this is a true test of leadership.

“More than 10 million working New Yorkers pay into Social Security with every paycheck. They deserve to know what the candidates plan to do to ensure they get the benefits they’re earning.”
