HomeFit Workshop and Luncheon with Dr. Joan Simmons

HomeFitPic

As they age, most people want to remain living in their homes for as long as they can. But will their homes safely age along with them?

The AARP HomeFit Workshop, part of AARP Livable Communities programming, teaches people how to make modifications to their homes, thereby allowing them to safely "age in place." Changes range from simple, no cost solutions to larger, more expensive retrofits.

Join AARP Massachusetts at the Westfield Senior Center on Thursday, Sept. 22, 2016, from noon to 2 p.m., for a special HomeFit Workshop and luncheon, featuring special guest Dr. Joan Simmons, associate professor of Occupational Therapy at Springfield College.

Dr. Simmons will discuss home modifications to help people age in place and remain comfortable, independent, and injury-free. She will explain  no- and low-cost options that can help people stay in their homes long term, whether home is a house or an apartment.

All attendees will receive a copy of the AARP HomeFit Guide.

The luncheon menu includes Potato-Encrusted Cod with Chives and Cheddar Cheese, long grain and wild rice pilaf, glazed baby carrots, and homemade apple crisp a la mode for dessert.

Tickets to the event are $3.00 (due to the luncheon) and must be purchased in advance since seating is limited. Tickets go on sale on Tuesday, Aug. 30, 2016, and may be ordered by calling the Westfield Senior Center at 1-413-562-6435.
