The Inheritance - A Day of Alzheimer's Research and Discussion Set

An afternoon of dementia conversation and research, highlighted by author Niki Kapsambelis is set for Nov. 7 in Casper and open to the public.

Wyoming Dementia Care, Casper College, Wyoming Center on Aging, Central Wyoming Counseling Service, Mountain Plaza, and AARP Wyoming have joined forces to sponsor the day, which kicks off at noon with Kapsambelis presenting on her book The Inheritance to health care professionals at the Casper College Library. The Inheritance examines the current state of Alzheimer’s research, and features a North Dakota family with a rare genetic mutation, which has caused five of the six siblings in the family to develop early-onset Alzheimer's. Two of the siblings will join Kapsambelis for the presentation. Also presenting will be licensed clinical social worker,  Kelly Shipley of Central Wyoming Counseling Center.

Kapsambelis and the McIntyres will also present to a general audience later that same day at the Natrona County Public Library from 6-8 PM followed by a panel discussion to include Dr. David Wheeler, MD, PhD, a local neurologist and the board chair of Wyoming Dementia Care.

Both events are free to attendees through sponsorship by AARP, Mountain Plaza Assisted Living and WYCOA. Books will be made available for purchase by Wind City Books at the evening event. A book signing with the author and refreshments will follow the program. Ten percent of the proceeds from book sales at Wind City Books will be donated back to Wyoming Dementia Care.

For more information call the Goodstein Foundation Library at 307-268-2269. The library is located on the Casper College campus.
