Job Announcement: Legislative Coordinator Position for AARP Montana

AARP Montana is seeking a Legislative Coordinator for the 2015 legislative session. The Legislative Coordinator will report directly to the Advocacy Director for AARP Montana.

Job Description

Responsibilities

  • Assist AARP Montana Advocacy Director on activities related to the 2015 legislative session.
  • Coordinate activities of AARP Capital City Advocates, including training of volunteers, preparation of testimony on bills, agenda and materials for weekly meeting of volunteers, and scheduling and notice of volunteer activities.
  • Establish and maintain bill tracking system. Generate weekly hearing schedule and hearing alert system on priority bills tracked.
  • Assist in grassroots advocacy activities, including designing and activating e-advocacy alerts, recruiting key volunteers outside of Helena to lobby legislators and submit letters-to-the-editors, coordinate AARP participation in rallies and/or lobby day activities.
  • Maintain records of testimony and advocacy on bills for reporting purposes.
  • Draft one-page factsheets on key legislation.
  • Present testimony on legislation as assigned. Speak to groups or individuals about AARP’s work at the legislature as needed.

 

Qualifications


Four year college degree. Strong writing and organizational skills are essential. Familiarity with the legislative process not required, but preferred. Proficient use of Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook, experience navigating Internet for research purposes, familiarity with Facebook, Twitter.

Duration of work

This temporary position will begin work on November 1, 2014 and end May 31, 2015 depending on budget.

Compensation

Hourly rate of up to $21/hour depending on skills and experience. Since this is a temporary position, no benefits provided.
