A Play about Caregiving by Robert F. Benjamin

A play about aging, caregiving, love and life. In this upbeat journey of a recent widower, David (age 70) strives to begin a new life chapter, having served well as caregiver for his wife who died of cancer. But he clashes with his grieving daughter Dawn, who feels guilt for not caregiving enough. Years later, David needs a caregiver. Dawn offers, as does David's new girlfriend. Who will become David's caregiver?

Russell Costen’s favorite roles as an actor are Big Daddy in Edge Theatre’s production of Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, Leroy in Tell Martha Not to Moan with Athena Project, Doug in Dividing the Estate at the Arvada Center, and Paul Robeson in Shadow Theatre Company’s one man show in the life and times of that great artist.  Other favorite roles: Walter Lee in A Raisin in the Sun, Toledo in Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom and Gabriel in Fences.  His TV and film appearances go all the way back to Hair, Ryan’s Hope, All My Children, and Kojak.

Carol Bloom has worked as an actor, director and educator in professional, university and community theatres for the past 35 years. She served for 27 years as a full-time faculty member of the Department of Theatre Film and Television, at the University of Colorado/Denver, where she remains part of the Faculty at Large. Recent acting credits include Honora in The Familiars, Dotty Otley in Noises Off, Lady Bracknell in The Importance of Being Earnest, Madame Arcati in Blithe Spirit, Felicity in The Shadow Box.

Laura Adducci, is full of all kinds of gratitude. For the opportunity to work with talented artists. For the joy of speaking words that deserve to be spoken. She is grateful for the opportunity to be a part of something larger than herself. Big thanks to Angela, Robert, and the cast. In addition to stage work, Laura narrates books and works with area police officers and medical students as a scenario based role player.

Angela Astle, Director, made her New York directorial debut Spring 2008 with Retro Productions' Mill Fire (nominated for five NYITA awards). One year later, she was the Director of Flux Theatre Ensemble's critically acclaimed Pretty Theft, written by Adam Szymkowicz, which received a very favorable New York Times review. In New York, she directed numerous never-produced-before plays at Manhattan Theatre Source, The Workshop Theatre, Peter Jay Sharp Theatre/ Playwrights Horizons, and Off Broadway at Theatre 80. She also has directed and produced three shows in three different festivals in New York in addition to working as a Venue Manager and Script Reader for the New York International Fringe Festival (2007 & 2008).

Angela's favorite Denver directing credits include A View From the Bridge (Edge Theatre), The Laramie Project (Evergreen Players), and Cat on a Hot Tin Roof (Edge Theatre) for which she won an Edgy and Marlowe Best Director award.  In addition, she has produced 2 other festivals celebrating the work of local playwrights and numerous staged readings.  She has enjoyed developing new plays for the past 10 years. Angela is an alumni of University of Colorado at Denver with a degree in Business and Theatre and a proud member of the 2009 Lincoln Center Directors Lab.  She is also the Founder and Executive Producer of Athena Project.

Robert F. Benjamin, Playwright
, writes comedic dramas about "Aging with Grace, Courage and Humor" and contemporary intergenerational issues. His plays have been produced in ten states. His trilogy about "Aging" includes:  Still In the Game, Time Enough, and Salt and Pepper (Off-Off-Broadway run at Spiral Theatre Studio). His other produced full-length plays are Parted Waters and Not Quite Right (co-authored).  Parted Waters is a commissioned play for the Arizona Jewish Theatre Company (premiered March 2009 at Phoenix).  He's also had over 20 short plays produced.  His popular short play, PLOTS, has been adapted to film and opera, and another short play, Resting Places, has also been adapted to opera. He founded the "Live Theater at Senior Centers" project at Los Alamos NM.  His earlier career was as a research physicist and educator.  He is a founding member of the Albuquerque Theatre Guild and their Playwrights Circle, and a founding member of Wrinklies on Tour, an Albuquerque-based troupe that produces short plays at senior venues.
