As cold weather sets in, AARP Kentucky is encouraging members who have a hard time paying their utility bills to apply for help with heating costs.

Community Action Kentucky, a nonprofit organization, manages the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program, which provides eligible households with about $150 a year on average to help pay for home energy costs. Singles with annual income up to $14,940 and couples with annual income up to $20,172 may be eligible. Applications will be taken Nov. 4 to Dec. 13.

The nonprofit also manages the state’s Weatherization Program, which provides insulation and heating system repairs for  low- to moderate-income households (singles, up to $22,980; couples, up to $31,020).

For details about either program, call 800-456-3452.
