As tax season wraps up, AARP South Dakota will host a series of free events across the state aimed at preventing identity theft.

The AARP Fraud Watch Network sessions will teach residents ways they can protect themselves from the latest scams. The events are free and open to the public. Space is limited, so registration is required.

The first session will be in Rapid City, on Tuesday, April 23, from noon to 1 p.m., at the Holiday Inn-Rushmore Plaza. Other fraud events will take place in Aberdeen, Pierre, Sioux Falls and Watertown, also in April.

Free shredding will also be offered in those cities this month, to help people safely purge old confidential documents.
