AARP AARP States Maine Community

In your neighborhood: Southern and Central Maine Events in February

Just because it's chilly outside, doesn't mean we don't know how to have a good time! We're working in your neighborhood and hope you'll join us. Here are some of the fun opportunities we have coming up that we hope you'll join us for. All are welcome!

Tuesday, February 14th: Tuesday's at the Statehouse
What better way to celebrate Valentines Day then by showing a little love to our state legislators in Augusta? Our monthly "Tuesday's at the Statehouse," event introduces members like you to our local legislators and where they work. Get a tour of the statehouse so you know your way around, hear about pending legislation AARP Maine is working on and how you can help, AND have lunch on us! AARP Maine Tuesdays at the State House is an easy and accessible way for AARP members to be present and comfortable with the workings of the Maine State House. Join us every other Tuesday from 10:30 to 12:30. Meet at the State House entrance by security, and join us upstairs to observe the House or Senate, mingle in the halls and say hello to your legislator. RSVP here.

Wednesday, February 15th: Augusta Area Coffee Klatsch
AARP Maine's Advocacy Director, Amy Gallant, will be our special guest this month. She'll be talking about caregiving and the related work that AARP Maine is working in the statehouse. As always, bottomless coffee/beverages are on us. Come by, grab a bite, and meet some of your local community members. See you at Lisa's on Bangor Street! RSVP here.

Wednesday, February 15th: Waterville Area Lunch Bunch
We’ll be joined by AARP Maine Outreach Director Jay Els who will be giving a brief update on what’s happening in Maine and some of the issues that AARP staff and volunteers are hard at work on both in Augusta and in communities around the state. Are you taking care of a loved one in your family? You'll want to hear about our effort to introduce a tax credit for the 178,000 family caregivers in Maine. Concerned about the rise of fraud and scams targeting the 50+ community? You should know about the amazing work of our Fraud Watch Network that continues to educate, inform and advocate for the protection of older Mainers who are all too often victims of phone and online scams. We'll cover all beverages (non-alcoholic) and provide appetizers for munching. Come on down to Joseph's Fireside Steakhouse and join us in getting to work in 2017. RSVP here.

Thursday, February 16th: Portland On Tap! at Ri Ras
Join AARP Maine at RiRa on the 3rd Thursday of the month to meet AARP staff, members and volunteers. Enjoy free appetizers as you learn about our ongoing work in the community, volunteer opportunities and upcoming events. Your first beer or wine is on us! RSVP here.

Monday, February 27th: York Beach Community Coffee Klatsch
"Klatsch" is German for a social gathering complete with conversation and especially coffee. We're offering you a little of both! Come by for a free cup of coffee (or two!) and meet local members, hear about some of the local issues that impact Maine's southern coast and get a quick update from AARP Maine staff on issues in play in the statehouse. We hope you'll join us! RSVP here.

We hope to see you at any (or all?) of these community events! As always, all are welcome so feel free to invite a friend or two to tag along.
