AARP Maine Attending PUC Community Meetings on Deregulation of Basic Landline Telephone Service in 5 Towns, Urges Outreach to Local Residents
Beginning in August, many FairPoint customers are going to see important changes in their landline telephone service as service is deregulated according to a new law passed in 2016. If you are what is known as a POLR customer (Provider of Last Resort) it will be especially important for you to be aware of these changes.
AARP Maine has been the lead opponent to FairPoint’s proposed deregulation of the Provider of Last Resort (POLR) service in Maine since 2012. Nearly 3,000 Mainers 50+ signed a petition to save landline phones, and legislators received hundreds of phone calls and emails from concerned citizen this session.
Turn your phone bill over. What's on the back?
If you live in one of these 25 Maine towns, your basic landline telephone service is on the chopping block.
