Event: We Need to Talk: Family Conversations with Older Drivers

Description: How do you know when it’s time for your loved one to limit or stop driving? It’s a tough subject for most families, but it’s a serious matter. Now there’s help. AARP offers a free seminar called We Need to Talk that will help you determine how to assess your loved ones’ driving skills and provide tools to help you have this important conversation. To attend this free seminar, you must register with Anne O’Neil at 301-656-2797. ** This seminar is 3 days long – stretched out over 3 consecutive Saturdays.**

Event: Gilchrist’s 2nd Annual Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans Day Celebration

Description: Join AARP Maryland at this exciting celebration for our Vietnam veterans. A resource fair will be open from 9:00 am to 10:30 am where information will be available about services, support, and resources to veterans and their loved ones. Guest speakers include: Diane Carlson Evans, USA, Guy Gruters, USAF, Governor Larry Hogan, and Lt. Col. Tim Maxwell, USMC (Ret.). Brunch will be provided beginning at 9 am. Event: Carroll County Seniors on the Go Expo

Description: Join AARP Maryland at this exciting expo that will offer resources and exhibitors. Come out for FREE health screenings, vendor prize bingo, speakers and seminars, and prescription medication disposal. The event is free and open to the public! May 23, 2019 (11 am to 2 pm – Rain or Shine):
Event: Sounds of Summer at Oregon Ridge
Address:
 13401 Beaver Dam Rd, Cockeysville, MD 21030
Description: The Baltimore County Department of Aging presents Sounds of Summer featuring Beach Bumz. Come on out for an afternoon of door prizes, 50/50 raffles, picnics, beach themed fun, and so much more. The Beach Bumz, a beach tribute band, performs all of your favorite beach music from Jimmy Buffet to the Beach Boys. The music is sure to transport your thoughts to a sunny carefree day down by the shore. Pack a picnic lunch or pre-purchase a box lunch provided by Santoni’s Marketplace for $7.

The box lunch is available by preorder only and must be purchased by May 17.   Lunch choice is turkey, roast beef, tuna or veggie sandwich and includes chips, cookie, and soda. Please note: Box lunches are not available for purchase on the day of the event.  Concert tickets cost $4 and lunch $7 in advance beginning April 8 at your local senior center. Concert tickets will be available at the door for $5.  No refunds. Chairs not provided & no glass. For more information call 410-887-2040

Event: The 13th Annual Holistic Health Seminar on Memory Loss

 Randallstown Community Center, 3505 Resource Drive, Randallstown, MD 21133
Description: The goals of the seminar are to learn about proactive lifestyle habits and to discuss diseases that disproportionately affect the community, such as heart disease and hypertension, kidney disease and diabetes, and cognitive decline. [More information to come.]

June 27, 2019 (6 pm):
Event: At The Crossroads – Alzheimer’s Disease, Dementia & Driving
Address:
Twinbrook Library, 202 Meadow Hall Dr, Rockville, MD 20851
Description: The Hartford Financial Services Group, Inc., produced this course to help family members decide when and how individuals with dementia should limit or stop driving. The goal is to prolong independence while protecting the safety of drivers with dementia. To attend this free seminar, you must register with Chris Lundy at 240-777-0240.
