POSTPONED! DETAILS IN RED BELOW: A Day at the Museum: Marshall’s Memory Box Art WorkshopSaturday, November 17, 10:00 am – 11:30 am
Prince George’s African American Museum and Cultural Center, 4519 Rhode Island Avenue, North Brentwood, MD 20722

Join AARP Maryland as we partner with the Prince George’s African American Museum & Cultural Center for the Marshall’s Memory Box Art Workshop. This is a free event.

With this free workshop, participants will create their own wooden memory boxes inspired by PGAAMCC’s 2014 exhibition Blazz: Works on Blues and Jazz by Ulysses Marshall.  This activity will offer an in-depth look into Ulysses Marshall’s work and teach participants a new method of interpreting their most valued memories. We ask that you bring small trinkets, keepsakes, small notes, recipes, and copies of photos that you would like to include in creating your memory box.

We will also discuss brain health tips and resources. Light refreshments will be served. This event has been postponed to spring 2019 due to low registration numbers. If you are interested in attending the rescheduled event, please email md@aarp.org with the subject line “Memory Box Workshop.”

“Prepare to Care” in Montgomery CountyThursday, November 29, 6:30 pm – 8:30 pm
Gaithersburg Library, 18330 Montgomery Village Ave, Gaithersburg, MD 20879

AARP Maryland and Montgomery County’s Caregiver Support Program are co-hosting “Prepare to Care.” Through this welcoming event, attendees will better understand how to be prepared, the importance of planning before a crisis, and establish a framework for developing an individual caregiving plan.

Family caregiving is central to AARP’s social mission. Prepare to Care: A Resource Guide for Families was developed by AARP to help make the job more manageable. It includes information on how to have vital conversations with older family members, organize important documents, assess your loved one’s needs and locate important resources.

Presented by AARP volunteer, Phyllis Meyerson, LCSW-C. Mrs. Meyerson has extensive experience conducting caregiver outreach, has served as an ombudsman, and a volunteer presenter with the Alzheimer’s Association.
