With gubernatorial and congressional races on the horizon this year, AARP Maine is planning a series of listening sessions across the state before the elections in June. AARP staff will ask members and community leaders to identify the issues they consider important. In addition, AARP Maine will share its platform and discuss the issues it is tracking.
As a nonpartisan organization, AARP does not endorse candidates, but does take a stand on issues that affect its members—and urges candidates to publicly state their positions on those issues.
AARP Maine also invites volunteers to get involved in advocacy. The state office provides training for volunteers to help them feel comfortable delivering easy speeches and meeting with candidates.
