More Green Space for the Garden State

Walking
Tucker, Jeannie - JTTucker

AARP New Jersey is putting more green space in the Garden State. To advance its livable-community goals, AARP gave grants to two Community Challenge projects in New Jersey.

The Bloomfield Department of Health and Human Services received funding to expand the WALK Bloomfield program and include devices that allow walkers to “click” their progress when they reach locations on the paths.

A grant also went to the Healthier Somerset/Somerset Health Care Foundation, for the installation of a downtown green space.

The grants are part of AARP’s mission to promote livable and age-friendly communities. So far this year, Garfield, Maplewood, South Orange and Teaneck have joined the AARP Network of Age-Friendly States and Communities.
