Nearly 8,800 Nebraskans filed reports of fraud, identity theft and other complaints to the Federal Trade Commission in 2017. AARP Nebraska is teaming up with the Better Business Bureau to help shrink that number by sponsoring Secure Your ID Day on Saturday, April 21.
AARP Nebraska and Better Business Bureau (BBB) Foundation will host a special program featuring identity theft and consumer fraud expert Eva Velasquez in Grand Island and Lincoln April 10 and in Ralston April 11.
In the wake of the Equifax data breach, volunteers trained to help consumers avoid scams are prepared to speak to community groups in Nebraska.
As part of its Fraud Watch Network efforts, AARP Nebraska has teamed up with the Better Business Bureau and other organizations to sponsor Secure Your ID Day in Lincoln on Saturday, June 24. The event will be from 9 a.m. to noon at West Gate Bank, located at Old Cheney Road and Highway 2.
AARP Nebraska offers free fraud presentations to community groups year round and is now scheduling sessions for 2017. Trained volunteers are available to make AARP Fraud Watch Network presentations across the state. These sessions can help Nebraskans stay up to date on the latest scams, be safe online and take action if they spot fraud.
