Taming the Elephant Video (for caregivers and everyone else)

Caregiving is often overwhelming for both the primary caregiver and the patient, but asking for help is never easy.

Taming The Elephant is a powerfully animated video that illustrates how friends and family members can collaborate in the caregiving process to relieve stress and offer rewarding outcomes for everyone involved.

The video was developed by a team of Lincoln-based writers and artists who have been caregivers or care recipients themselves.

The project uses the common "elephant in the room" metaphor to tell the story of a gazelle and zebra coping with a new lifestyle and unexpected problems once the gazelle gets sick. The video shows that learning to accept help is as important as learning how to give it.

AARP Nebraska provided major financial support for Taming the Elephant. Please share far and wide with your family, friends and loved ones!

Each year, approximately 240,000 Nebraskans spend about 200 million hours providing unpaid care for their loved ones.
