AARP Nevada Names Wayne Leroy New State President

LAS VEGAS, Nev. – AARP Nevada announced today that Wayne Leroy has been named to a two-year term as State President as part of the organization’s volunteer Executive Council board. Leroy is the 2005 AARP Dr. Ethel Andrus Award winner, given annually to an exemplary community-focused volunteer, and has been a member of the organization’s Executive Council since 2013.

Leroy, an AARP member since 1991, has held leadership positions in a multitude of businesses most recently serving as the Executive Vice President of the Association of Higher Education Facilities Officers. Leroy’s lengthy career in higher education led way to numerous volunteer opportunities. He has served on the Boards of Directors of the American Vocational Association, Greater Washington Society of Association Executives, and served as a committee member for the American Society of Association Executives, Council of Higher Education Management Associations, Washington Higher Education Secretariat, the Jaycees, Kiwanis Club, and the Protective Order of Elks.

“Wayne has been a valued volunteer and member of our Executive Council for years,” said Maria Dent, AARP Nevada State Director. “His deep experience as a volunteer leader with AARP Nevada will be a huge benefit to our Executive Council and our State staff. His guidance and perspective will continue to help us help Nevadans live their best lives as they age.”

As State President, Leroy will in partnership with the State Director and in collaboration with other appropriate volunteers and staff. The State President positions AARP in the state to achieve the AARP vision, mission, and strategic priorities. Leroy will serve as the principal AARP volunteer spokesperson in the state, communicating AARP messages statewide.

“Serving and volunteering with AARP Nevada has been a rewarding and fulfilling journey,” Leroy said. “I was honored to be selected as State President and look forward to working with the State staff, fellow Executive Council members, and our members in the Silver State.”
