Social Security has remained strong over its 83-year-history largely because of its dedicated financing and the commitment of past congresses and presidents to work together to make the changes needed to secure its financial future.

Medicare contributes $2.8 billion to New Hampshire’s economy, equivalent to 22% of state and local government spending in the state, according to a new report from AARP.  Medicare also covers 260,598 beneficiaries in the Granite State. Older Americans have said Medicare is one of their top issues in the 2018 mid-term elections, and AARP New Hampshire is working to encourage voter participation this election season.

In New Hampshire, over 260,000 people over 65 and individuals with disabilities are covered by Medicare for their health care.
Voter Engagement 2018
AARP just launched “ Be The Difference. Vote™,” a comprehensive voter engagement campaign to support Americans age 50-plus as they vote in the 2018 midterm elections. The campaign will provide information on where politicians stand on the issues and help these decisive voters hold politicians accountable for their positions this November.

The US Senate recently voted on the Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act (MACRA) of 2015 (H.R. 2) that permanently replaces the Sustainable Growth Rate (SGR) formula used to calculate reimbursements to physicians under Medicare. The Senate also voted on the Cardin-Vitter “Seniors’ Amendment” which was a Key Vote for AARP.
