Do you know an extraordinary volunteer age 50 or older?  Please show your appreciation by nominating him or her for the 2016 AARP Utah Andrus Award for Community Service. The annual  Andrus Award for Community Service is AARP’s most prestigious and visible volunteer award.  It recognizes individuals who share their experience, talent and skills to enrich their communities in ways that are consistent with AARP’s mission, vision, and commitment to volunteer service, and who inspire others to volunteer.

Past recipients have included volunteers who served in hospitals, brought Christmas gifts to Native American children, worked for LGBT rights, and helped animal rescue organizations.  Last year's recipient, Carol Jenson, has given many thousands of hours to Utah Food Bank and volunteers for other organizations as well.

Nominations are now being accepted for the 2016 awards in Utah.

The nomination deadline is June 1, 2016 For more information, eligibility requirements and nomination forms, visit www.aarp.org/andrusaward.  If you have questions, please contact Jill Duke at jduke@aarp.org or call toll free (866) 448-3616 or 801-567-2642.

Award recipients will be honored at a reception and dinner at the University of Utah Guest House and Conference Center, the evening of Tuesday, September 27, 2016.   Volunteers nominated for the Andrus Award will also be considered for recognition of their contributions toward outstanding community service.

Please share this information with your colleagues.  Nominees need NOT be a member of AARP, but the body of their work should be consistent with AARP’s mission and values as outlined here.

AARP is able to reach people in nationwide and in local communities because of our great volunteer structure, from those who serve in AARP Foundation Tax-Aide or work as Driver Safety instructors to those who volunteer for our annual Day of Service.  We thank everyone who volunteers for AARP, past or present, for helping to create real possibilities for our members and the public.
