AARP North Carolina is pleased to announce that Consuela Chapman will be working with AARP and partners across the state to help put an end to adult hunger in the state.
Reidsville, N.C . - AARP Foundation, Meals on Wheels Association of America (MOWAA) and Aging, Disability and Transit Services (ADTS) are teaming up with Jeff Gordon -- four-time NASCAR Cup Series champion and driver of the No. 24 Drive to End Hunger Chevrolet SS for Hendrick Motorsports -- to deliver the one millionth Meals on Wheels meal to a local family in Stoneville, NC.
This Saturday is the 22 nd Anniversary of the "Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive." On May 10, in collaboration with AARP Foundation, NC Feeding America, Inc., US Postal Service, National Association of Letter Carriers, National Rural Carriers Association, AFL-CIO, United Way, Campbell Soup, Publix and others, people from all over the state will be donating food to feed the hungry.
AARP and partners across the state and nation are working to address what has been a silent crisis in North Carolina called “food insecurity.” In the Tarheel state, nearly one-in-ten adults ages 50 and over are food insecure, in other words, at risk of going hungry.
By filling up grocery bags with non-perishable food items and leaving it at their mailboxes, AARP members and partners collected over 395,429 pounds of food for the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina’s 34-county service area.
