Volunteer with AARP in McAlester, Oklahoma City, Shawnee & Tulsa for 2019 AARP Day of Service

Please join AARP Oklahoma as we give back to our communities through volunteerism and the 2019 AARP Day of Service. Join us September 11, 2019 in McAlester, Oklahoma City, Shawnee or Tulsa as we roll up our sleeves to participate in local community service projects. AARP staff and volunteers will be volunteering at the local food banks in Oklahoma City, Shawnee and Tulsa. In McAlester, volunteers will assemble backpacks with food for children needing nutritional snacks on the weekends.

Last year, 70 AARP volunteers and staff helped sort and pack packed 6,000 meals and 6,525 pounds of food during AARP’s 17th Annual Day of Service.

The September 11th National Day of Service and Remembrance promotes community service on 9/11 as a tribute to the victims, survivors and those who rose up in service in response to the attacks.

"AARP was built on the core beliefs of volunteerism, service, and civic engagement. AARP OK members, individually, volunteer hundreds of hours each year in their communities in a variety of activities," said Joe Ann Vermillion, AARP OK state president. "Our statewide Day of Service volunteer opportunities are a wonderful opportunity to come together and give back as we focus on 'Fighting Hunger and Feeding Hope' in our communities."
