Sacramento, Calif. – Today, in a ceremony at the State Capitol, AARP California Executive Council Member Rita Saenz presented California State Senate President pro Tem Kevin de León a plaque recognizing him an AARP “Super Saver” for 2016. The Super Saver award is bestowed upon a select number of elected leaders across the nation – regardless of party affiliation -- who have fought to make it possible for more Americans to save for their future.
Tom Oliver of Bellingham is literally saving lives in his community. Oliver serves as the lead “Project Lifesaver” volunteer for Dementia Support Northwest. Project Lifesaver provides ankle tracking devices for those with dementia, enabling them to be quickly found if they wander away from home by search and rescue teams.The program works with the Whatcom County Sheriff’s Department to bring peace of mind to family caregivers of dementia patients.

SACRAMENTO – Today, AARP applauded the vote on the Assembly Floor (52-26) passing the California Secure Choice Retirement Savings Act (Senate Bill 1234), introduced by Senate President Pro Tem Kevin De León, back to the Senate for concurrence. AARP strongly supports SB 1234, which, if passed out of concurrence and signed by Governor Brown, would create an auto-enrolled, supplemental retirement savings program for more than 7 million private sector workers in California who do not have access to a retirement savings plan through their job.
AARP strongly believes that we must stand together to stop racism and work towards dismantling racist narratives.
