AARP Pennsylvania State Director Bill Johnston-Walsh provided the following statement today in response to the finalized budget for fiscal year 2025-2026.

There is a mix of perennials and shrubs that should not be pruned before winter. Keep in mind that any pruning on a plant encourages growth. Pruning stimulates a growth hormone called an auxin. If you prune the top of a rose cane, it will stimulate growth below the pruned section. Pruning in late fall or winter is risky. The environmental temperatures will not support growth.
There’s a new program to help eligible Connecticut residents who are struggling to afford high-speed internet access.
Ever thought about running your own business? AARP Virgin Islands is hosting five online sessions to help entrepreneurs navigate the red tape. All sessions are on Wednesdays, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Topics are as follows:
AARP Pennsylvania invites Keystone Staters to celebrate the LGBTQ+ community by viewing the Dandy Andy Tour, a virtual look at works in Pittsburgh’s Andy Warhol Museum, in the artist’s hometown.
AARP Oregon is hosting a series of virtual town hall events from mid-June to mid-September to educate voters about topics such as caregiver support, age discrimination, financial security, fraud and aging in place. The state office plans to share the feedback with the candidates running for governor before the Nov. 8 election.
AARP Texas is working to bridge the digital divide. Those without access to high-speed internet tend to be older adults living in rural areas, regions that also lack access to health care.
The pandemic has led to isolation and loneliness for many people. AARP District of Columbia wants people to know there is a way to help and be helped. AARP’s Friendly Voice program has trained, caring volunteers who are ready to chat, listen or just say hello.
AARP is encouraging Illinois voters to make their voices heard by casting their ballots in the Tuesday, June 28, primaries.
It will be a year of change for the state’s voters.
AARP Kansas is seeking volunteers to support a variety of issues and programs important to older Kansans.
According to the 2020 American Community Survey (conducted by the Census Bureau), North Carolina’s population grew by 12 percent from 2010 to 2020, 75 percent of which came from a rise in the number of residents age 50-plus.
