AARP has launched an e-card campaign aimed at moms with adult children, offering a unique way to encourage young adults to purchase health insurance. Recognizing that 8.6 million young adults age 26-34 are uninsured, AARP is encouraging their moms – many of whom are our members – to remind their kids to sign up for insurance as required by the Affordable Care Act.
AARP Rhode Island continues to work with a coalition including the RI Women’s Fund and the Senior Agenda on a bill to establish a Temporary Caregiver Insurance (TCI) program for caregivers similar to Temporary Disability Insurance (TDI). With TDI, there is paid time off when you are ill – with TCI it allows time off to care for a seriously ill family member. As with TDI, it is totally funded by employee contributions. The current estimate is that each employee would pay an additional 83 cents per week to fund the program.
